  • How about an over-cluttered, under-utilized mudroom, that you want convert to a laundry room?

  • Would you just love to have your washer and dryer on the second floor where the hampers and dressers are - instead of in the basement?

  • Or – maybe you want to convert the space over your garage to an in-law/guest suite?

“As I’ve said, many times before, most people just don’t know just how much wasted space they are sitting on.  I love to see the look on our clients’ faces when we show them how much space they really have and how well it can be used they are always pleasantly surprised”. – Gavriella Fiedler, President/Senior Designer, Interior Dimensions, Inc.

Case study #27:
Take, for example Becky and Mike T.  Here is their story:

The challenge
Becky and Mike called us because they wanted to renovate their master bath as well as the kids’ bath.  Because their house was built in the 1970’s, their master bath was about the size of a powder room.  I’m sure you’ve seen those before.  Anyway, Becky said that we could use the space in the hall that is now occupied by the linen closet.  Other than that, she could not see where else there may be additional usable space.

After conducting our field survey, we came back to our deign studio and drew the floor plan according to the existing layout of the upstairs of Becky’s and Mike’s home.  This is when the answer to the question of where is there additional usable space? became crystal clear to us.

Our Solution

While the master bedroom was not huge, it was large enough to “steal” some space from it and give it to the master bath simply by rearranging the furniture and moving one window.  Because we view each element in a space as a piece of the whole puzzle, we do not limit our thinking to just the space that the client is interested in renovating.  We see such limited kind of thinking all too often.  Taking in the big picture and not limiting the possibilities is one of the things that we hear our clients praise us for consistently.  Here’s what Becky and Mike had to say…

Client Reaction:
Wow!  We can’t believe that you were able to give us a “real” master bath with two sinks – and it doesn’t feel crowded!  The new arrangement also makes our bedroom feel so much more luxurious.  We absolutely love it!

…Just another example of what can happen when our clients tell us what they really want – even if they don’t think that or can’t see how it would be possible.
